01 Industry problem

A campus network typically serves staff, students, guests and lab/research segments simultaneously, each with a different trust level, often maintained by a small internal IT team without dedicated security staff.

02 Reference architecture

Segmented VLANs (staff, student, guest Wi-Fi, labs, CCTV) on a routed core, with RADIUS/Active Directory-backed authentication and NAC checking device posture before granting access.

Network and infrastructure monitoring with alerting scoped to distinguish genuine incidents from expected patterns like exam-period Wi-Fi load spikes.

06 Backup & DR

Immutable backup of directory services, DNS/DHCP configuration and any locally hosted academic systems, with restore testing on the same cadence as any other client.
