Veeam.
Backup orchestration platform we use to manage backup jobs, replication and recovery.
01 What it is
Veeam provides backup and replication orchestration across virtual, physical and cloud workloads, with support for immutable storage targets.
02 Where it fits
Central orchestration of backup jobs across a mixed estate, with recovery testing and reporting built around its job and restore-point model.
03 Architecture
Backup jobs write to object storage with Object Lock enabled in compliance mode, so the resulting backup is immutable for its retention period regardless of what happens in production.
04 XOOPIE expertise
Veeam is a platform we genuinely operate as part of our backup and disaster recovery service — configuring jobs, immutability, and running scheduled restore tests is core, hands-on work for us.
05 Integration
Integrates with VMware and cloud-native compute for source-side backup, and with S3-compatible object storage (including AWS S3 and compatible providers) for immutable targets.
06 Deployment considerations
Job scheduling and retention are set against your actual recovery objectives, not left at default settings — and validated by an actual restore, not just a completed job status.
07 Monitoring & security
Backup job success/failure and restore test results feed into the monthly evidence report; immutability means a compromise of the backup infrastructure itself cannot delete historical copies.
08 Limitations
Backup orchestration is only as good as the underlying storage's immutability guarantee and the discipline of actually testing restores — a tool alone doesn't create either.
09 Alternatives we also work with
- Restic and Rclone (for simpler, script-driven backup to object storage)
- AWS Backup / Azure Backup (for cloud-native workloads)
